  3.  Here are some grabs of my everyday workbench in action. It hasn't been
  4. "enhanced" for the screenshotting process or anything like that.
  5.  Due to student financial constraints :( I have what I consider a very low
  6. spec amiga system, A1200, WB3.0,68030 @25mhz, 2meg chip, 4meg fast, SCSI 2x
  7. CD-ROM (attached via a squirrel interface), Modem and a 250 MB maxtor 2.5
  8. inch HD. Oh and a Cumana
  9. external floppy, but thats only really used for playing Moonstone (One of the
  10. top games ever IMHO)
  11.  As I am using the 68030 in combination with the AGA chipset (and an RGB
  12. monitor) my usable display options are very limited. In fact I use 640x256 in
  13. 16 colours for my Workbench. This gives a broad enough palette for Newicons
  14. to look good, while keeping the display speed up, and saving memory.

  16.  Taking a brief tour around the workbench we can see:

  18. Multiview: (always useful)
  19.  
  20. Internet: This starts up my connection to Freeserve, using Miami as my TCP/IP
  21. stack.
  22.  
  23. Yam: I'm currently using Version 2, preview 7 (the latest public version at
  24. the time of writing). What can I say, this program is great I havn't used
  25. better on any platform.

  27. Ibrowse: This seems to be the fastest and most stable on my system, It does
  28. the job.
  29.  
  30. Peperoni: A drag and drop file ar/dearchiver
  31.  
  32. Downloads: A sort of junk drawer, everything is copied here until it gets
  33. sorted elsewhere or deleted :)
  34.  
  35. Visage: A graphics viewer, opens on a public screen and displays jpegs via
  36. some rather speedy internal code, and just about any other file format thanks
  37. to datatypes.
  38.  
  39. Top: Part of the Executive package which I can't recommend highly enough
  40. (CU-Amiga gave it 98%) this part of the program is a small CPU usage monitor,
  41. which can display usage for each task, you can also send breaks to programs
  42. from it, very useful.

  44. Shell: An easily accessable link to the shell, I have it patched with Kingcon
  45. so that it has tab filename completion, command completion, scrollback
  46. buffer, the works really.
  47.  
  48. Hip: short for Hippoplayer, a module, and sound player. It's small and
  49. supports many file formats.
  50.  
  51.  Do you like my backdrop???? It's only 8 colors and I think it looks great
  52. (many thanks Kira) It adds a bit of humour to my workbench.
  53.  
  54.  In some shots you might see me playing a CD using a program called ACDPlay.
  55. It gets launched when the audio CD icon is Dclicked (thanks to Deficons)

  59. All programs mention may be obtained from the Aminet CD's or FTP sites or from
  60. Various Cover CD's/Disks.
